How to Start a Ho Hodos Group

Starting a Ho Hodos Worship Art group is not hard because it is an expression of the creative gifts God has put within you.

To start a group, ask yourself who will make up your group? Will it be:

  • Just You
  • A Kids Group
  • A Group of Adults
  • A Combination Group of Kids and Adults (perfect for families!)

Just You

If you are an adult who will not be practicing with others in a group then you call all the shots! You are your own Mentor and you decide the day and time of your sessions. You can also mentor your child or children in your home whether or not you purchase a workbook for yourself. (However you will still need a mentor book).

There are pros and cons to going through Ho Hodos by yourself. Being able to set your own schedule is an advantage. Yet learning to work together in a group, developing close relationships, and appreciating the gifts of others, are advantages to practicing as a group.

Kids

To start a kids group answer the following questions:

  •  Who will be the Mentor?

Kids require a Mentor, someone to guide them through the practice and provide the time, place, materials, permission and encouragement they will need. If you’re looking to start a kids Ho Hodos group, you are the best choice for the Mentor.

  • Will you be practicing Ho Hodos yourself?

We encourage Mentors to get their own workbook and go through Ho Hodos themselves so you can share in earning beads along with the kids in your group.

  • Order your materials

Get your list together! Each child will need their own workbook and set of beads. However, you only need one Mentor book for the group.

  • Decide the day and time of your sessions

Will you hold  sessions every week, every other week etc? The beginning degree of Follower has 12 sessions.

  • Pray, receive your materials, gather supplies and you're ready!

Adults

To start an adult group answer the following questions:

  • Who will be in your group?

Will it be a group of friends, a neighborhood group, a church group, or some other group?

  • Will you have a Mentor, and if so, who will it be?

You may find it best to have one person gather the art materials needed, even if everyone contributes to the cost. Someone also needs to make the final decision on dates, times, cancellations if needed etc. If you’re looking to start a Ho Hodos group, you are most likely the best choice for the Mentor.

  • Order your materials

Each one needs their own workbook and set of beads.

  • Decide the day and time of your sessions

Will you hold sessions every week, every other week etc? The beginning degree of Follower has 12 sessions.

  • Pray, receive your materials, gather supplies and you're ready!

Combination Groups

It’s possible to have a group of both kids and adults if the group is willing to allow for the flexibility that is so often necessary when working with kids.

  •  Perfect for families!

A combo group works especially well in family situations. It works best if you treat it as a kids practice with the adults making the adjustments as needed in their lessons. The art projects in the adult and child workbooks are compatible to do together.
